Nine days in the Alberta bush calling bull moose during the rut. This is a 1-on-1 guided archery hunt in a zone with almost no predator pressure — the moose population is healthy and responsive to calling. You will walk cut lines, game trails, and hunt the edges of cut blocks, stopping every few hundred yards to call and wait. When a bull commits, he comes in close.
Your outfitter has been running moose hunts in this area for years and knows the terrain inside and out. Camp is set up right in the heart of moose country — wall tents or campers accessed by truck — so you are hunting from the moment you step outside in the morning. No long drives to get to the hunting area. Home-cooked meals in camp keep you fueled for full days of walking and calling.
The Hunt
This is a spot-and-stalk calling hunt. You will walk cut lines and power lines that stretch for miles through moose habitat, stopping at ravines, swamp edges, and ridgelines to call. Each calling sequence lasts 45 minutes to an hour — long enough for a bull to hear you and commit. Then you move a few hundred yards and start again. If a bull responds the evening before, you are back in that spot first thing in the morning.
The pace is steady but manageable. You are walking all day, but this is not an exhausting mountain hunt. Think slow and methodical — get into position, call, wait, move. The archery shots come in tight when a bull is locked in on your calling.
The Area
Located about an hour and a half west of Edmonton in Alberta’s boreal bush country. The zone has low predator pressure, which means a strong and growing moose population. The landscape is a mix of cut blocks, spruce timber, power line corridors, and willow-choked creek bottoms — classic moose habitat. Access is by truck and side-by-side, so you are not dealing with horseback logistics. Camp is positioned right in the middle of the hunting area.
