Pronghorn antelope are the fastest land animal in North America and one of the most rewarding species to hunt — especially when you’re chasing mature 75-inch bucks across the wide-open plains of eastern Colorado. With sharp eyesight, blistering speed, and a sixth sense for danger, these prairie speed goats challenge every skill in a hunter’s playbook.
Our guided pronghorn hunts take place on private ranches throughout the eastern plains of Colorado — hundreds of thousands of leased acres across multiple units. We hunt pastureland, tall-grass CRP fields, and rough canyon country to find the biggest bucks, with a hard target of mature animals in the 75-inch range and real shots at 82-inch giants. Archery, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons are all available with 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 guiding options.
The Hunt
A typical day starts before daylight when your guide picks you up and heads to areas where they’ve been consistently spotting mature pronghorn. At first light you’ll begin glassing the prairie, picking apart pastures and canyons until you find a buck worth chasing. Hunters can expect a mix of spot-and-stalk and water hole sit setups depending on conditions, wind, and the buck’s pattern. Being physically able to walk, crawl, kneel, and sit for moderate stretches is recommended.
Shot ranges vary by method: archers should be comfortable from 20 to 60 yards, muzzleloader hunters out to 100 yards, and rifle hunters typically inside 500 yards. Longer shots are possible if you’re comfortable, but rarely necessary on these ranches. Looking for similar plains hunts? - Archery: August 15 – September 20
- Muzzleloader: September 21 – 29
- Rifle: October 4 – November 12
License & Draw
Colorado uses a preference point system for pronghorn licenses in limited units. Each unit and season requires a different number of points to draw. Archery tags can also be purchased over-the-counter in many cases — your consultant can walk you through what’s currently drawing and the easiest path to a tag. If Colorado draws are tight, our New Mexico guided antelope hunt is another excellent option.
