Mongolia’s vast, treeless steppe and rolling mountain terrain make for a unique hunting experience unlike anywhere else in the world. Hunters glass enormous expanses of open country from ridgetops and vehicle-accessible vantage points, spotting bands of rams at long distances before planning a stalk. The terrain is surprisingly manageable compared to other mountain sheep hunts, with most of the difficulty coming from the distances involved rather than extreme vertical gain. Accommodations are traditional Mongolian gers (yurts) — comfortable, warm, and an authentic part of the experience.
Hunt Area
The hunting concession is located in Mongolia’s Altai Mountain range, home to the largest remaining populations of argali sheep in the world. The landscape is defined by sweeping grass-covered mountains, rocky ridgelines, and wide-open valleys that stretch to the horizon. This is big country — expect to glass long distances and cover ground by vehicle and on foot. The area holds strong numbers of mature rams, and hunters consistently encounter multiple groups of sheep during the course of a hunt.
Camp & Accommodations
Hunters stay in traditional Mongolian gers (yurts) set up in base camp within the hunting concession. The gers are warm, comfortable, and equipped with stoves for heat. Meals are prepared by a dedicated camp cook. While this is not a luxury lodge experience, it is authentic, functional, and part of what makes a Mongolia hunt so memorable. The camp is positioned to minimize travel time to prime glassing and hunting areas.
