If hearing a bull scream at 80 yards is on your list, this is the hunt. These are fully guided rifle elk hunts on leased private ranches in New Mexico’s Units 13 and 46 — and because every hunt comes with a private-land landowner tag, there is no draw, no points, and no waiting. You pick your dates, and you’re hunting.
These ranches are managed for mature bulls, and the numbers back it up: tens of thousands of acres of leased private ground across GMU 13 and GMU 46 with selective genetics and very little pressure. New Mexico consistently produces some of the best bulls in the West, and this operation has been putting hunters on them for years.
The Hunt
Two rifle hunts are offered each fall. The October hunt in Unit 13 lands squarely in the rut — bulls are bugling, pushing cows, and responding to calls, which makes for the kind of close-range action most rifle hunters never get to experience. The November hunt takes place in Unit 46, catching bulls grouped up in bigger bunches on winter ground, with a glass-and-stalk style hunt and the same private-land advantage at a lower price.
Both hunts run 5 full hunting days with 6 nights of lodging. Expect a mix of spot-and-stalk, calling, and covering ground by 4×4 and ATV to get into position. Guiding is 2-to-1, with 1-on-1 guiding available on premium hunts.
Private Land & Landowner Tags
Your landowner elk tag is included with the hunt — no application, no draw odds, no preference points. This is one of the biggest advantages New Mexico offers traveling hunters, and it’s why private-land hunts here fill up fast. You’ll stay in a custom private lodge with comfortable bedrooms, full bathrooms, a big open trophy room, and home-cooked meals — three a day, plus meals on arrival and departure nights. This is a true turn-key camp: show up with your rifle and your gear, and everything else is handled.
