The Kamchatka snow sheep hunt is one of the most iconic and exclusive mountain sheep hunts in the world. Set in the remote Milkovo region of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, this hunt takes you to a place so far from civilization that helicopter access is the only way in. The snow sheep is a true wilderness trophy — a rugged, thick-horned ram that lives in some of the most beautiful and untouched mountain terrain on earth. This is a hunt reserved for serious mountain hunters who are ready for a genuine expedition.
Kamchatka is a land of volcanic peaks, lush green alpine valleys, and pristine rivers — a landscape that looks like it belongs in another era. The hunting area holds strong populations of snow sheep with excellent trophy quality. Groups are limited to just one or two hunters, ensuring an intimate, high-quality experience in one of the last truly wild places on the planet.
Hunt Area
The hunting takes place in the Milkovo region of Kamchatka, deep in the interior of the peninsula. This is far from any road, village, or sign of human presence. Access is by helicopter only — a flight from Petropavlovsk directly into camp. The terrain is classic mountain sheep country: steep, rocky ridgelines and alpine bowls surrounded by lush green valleys and volcanic peaks. No hunting is done from helicopters — the helicopter is transportation only, getting you to and from this remote wilderness camp.
The Hunt
A snow sheep hunt demands excellent physical conditioning. Hunters should be prepared to hike several miles per day over steep, rocky terrain at moderate to high altitude. The hunting is classic spot-and-stalk — glassing from ridgelines and working into position on sheep spotted across valleys and mountainsides. Spotting scopes and rangefinder binoculars are essential. Each hunter is assigned two experienced guides who know the terrain and sheep patterns intimately. The hunt consists of 5–9 days of active hunting, with a built-in weather contingency day to account for the unpredictable Kamchatka conditions.
Camp
Camp is tent-style in the field with a dedicated camp chef preparing meals for the hunting party. Tents and ground pads are provided — hunters must bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodations are rugged but comfortable, and the food is excellent. This is a true wilderness camp experience in one of the most remote and beautiful places you will ever visit.
Travel
The total trip is approximately 13 days door-to-door. Flights should be booked at least 4 months in advance. The route includes a 1-night layover in Istanbul and a 1-night layover in Moscow on the way to Kamchatka. From Moscow, you fly to Petropavlovsk where the helicopter takes you directly into camp. All travel coordination, Russian visa, customs clearance, and ground transfers are handled by your hunt manager. Hunters who harvest early are encouraged to spend extra time exploring Moscow or Istanbul — tourism assistance is available. After the hunt, full trophy handling and shipping to the United States is managed for you.
